I Bet You Think This Post Is About You

Because <singing> “You’re SO Vain….”

That worked in my head. And speaking of head, I have something for your head! And your face, and your general self! So you know my leetle seester got married this last July, and I’ve lost 70lbs (YAY!) and then we had family pictures for the first time in who knows how long? …. so long story short, I’ve done a little self make-over and I have got the GOODS on the looking goods, people! And it’s high time I share my favorite tricks before you have to see all your families over these winter holidays. And it’s not that I think I’m right all the time, but I am SO right about this post, so get your pens.

And find your nearest Sephora. They love to give samples, and I love to GET samples! I’ve gone in there before with a list of things I need to try and they laugh and chat with me, then fill me up and send my on way. And it works out for them, because then I come back and spend my dough because I know I’m not going to have buyers remorse.

First your SKIN

I got this very good book (How Not To Look Old) when I started this process, and if you’re really hankering for a full self make-over that book is a great guide, but since you have me, why would you? But she does say a couple uber smart things I will copy here, and the first is she knows a famous make-up artist in New York who literally spends 45 minutes prepping her clients face’s, and only about 15 minutes applying the make-up.

Wha-! Alissa, please tell us you don’t wake up before the children to start your make-up! No way, my morning routine takes me about 7 minutes start to finish, but that little nugget of information really stuck in my head as I think about where I really want to spend my pretty pennies for my vanity. I love Body Shop for my face soaps and moisturizers which change during the year depending on the season, but Body Shop cares where their stuff comes from, and the ingredients in their stuff, and they have the best sales if you keep your eyes out for them.

Listen, don’t beat the crap out of your skin! Don’t just exfoliate it all day everyday, it’s an organ, it needs love and vitamins :) But when you do need a little kick, this is GREAT and gentle enough for daily use, but I only use it once every few weeks

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel

Go to sephora and they will give you 3 or 4 samples, which you get you through a couple months for free!

and don’t sample this, just BUY THIS

P232903_hero

EradiKate Acne Treatment

I have had such tricky skin moving to a humid climate, but at the first sign of a zit, I wash, dab, and POOF. I am not kidding, go get it, just owning it will make your skin stay clear out of fear.

Then, back to Sephora you go if you need a foundation, get them to give you samples of the Nars line, it’s so great, and I also have a loose mineral foundation from Body Shop that I use daily since it’s fast, and I’m lazy.  Nars is great because it’s meant to be applied with your fingers so Russell won’t swipe some 40 dollar foundation brush I bought and use it to recover ‘dinosaur bones’ from the 2x3 patch of dirt on the side of the house because Sid Science Kid showed him how.

But FIRST, and go get your sample of this now so you’ll understand my caps there, get a PRIMER!

The first time you put one on, you’ll never forget again. I wash good at night then I literally get up in the morning, brush my teeth, and then throw my primer on as I walk into the kitchen. It evens skin tone, I often don’t need to brush on foundation after, and it feels so good.

This one is SO silky with SPF

Photo Finish Foundation Primer

And this one smells amazing, and I like that it’s a little tacky

"That Gal" Brightening Face Primer

Yes, I own them both, sample them, pick for yourself.

Then unless I’m going on a date or getting pictures, I just lightly brush a little spf mineral foundation over my face

and!

then: (keeping in mind that I not responsible for the names)

Girl Meets Pearl

You guys, since I started using those two things up there, the compliments I get on my skin are non stop!   The blush is hailed the beauty world over, and it is well deserved, and the Girl Meets Pearl? Well, after I finish my make-up I dab a tiny bit on each temple, the top of my cheekbones, the ridge under my eyebrows, the middle of my nose, the v above my top lip and then I just blend it with my fingers. My skin looks and feels better than it ever has when I’m done! And it takes only seconds. Seconds that will have your Great Aunt Edna staring at you over the bowl of stuffing for an hour trying to figure out who you are and why you’re crashing Thanksgiving dinner.  And who you just had sex with. (ha! and you thought I was just about to let the name of that blush slip by… )

Do your skin right, and you can use whatever cheap lip-gloss you want, I use the great and inexpensive Lash Blast mascara after curling my eyelashes for five seconds twice on each side, and OH!

get this:

P74310_hero

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

It lasts forever, you plop it on your eyelids, brush under your bottom lashes with the little crooked wand, rub it in, and whatever cheapola eye make-up you get will look like a million bucks all day! There are many imitators, but that one? The BEST.

I usually don’t do my eyes though, or a little gold on my lid. Let’s see, I think that covers my favorite face finds… except!!

1230-NPT

Tweezerman!

lifetime guarantee, they will sharpen them for free if you send them in with a return envelope, and there is no hair they can’t snag with ease. I might have to put these on my list of things I’m thankful for when we go around the turkey table.

And something not for your face that I can’t recommend enough? img_shave_pom

EOS Shaving Lotion

for wet or dry! And it works! As a brunette I can’t tell you enough (or at least WAY more than you want to know) how much I appreciate being able to jump out of the shower, dry off, brush my hair, and THEN shave my pits in the mirror. And maybe because it’s a thicker lotion, I don’t get razor burn anymore since I found it! And as much as I don’t want to talk about my arm pits here, that is something I simply had to share! 3 bucks at Target.

All of the links I have provided to go with my pictures are just what I can find so you can get more information on them, but remember the other thing that makes your skin glow is SAVING MONEY, so shop around, use Sephora so you know you love it before you buy it, and always, ALWAYS send me anything you don’t want because that is fun for me.

And last but not least, in between our holiday binging, give yourself four days for this:

Listen, slender or curvy, we all feel cuter when we don’t feel bloated, and if you dive in and do the jumpstart from this book in 48 hours you just FEEL flatter, your skin feels fresher and for Christmas all your family will want? Is to BE YOU.

Haha, at least I’m sure that’s how my family feels about me, right?

Okay, SO much information here, I need to go back and take notes...or just plan a day when you can drag me around shopping and you point and I buy. That sounds fun! I saw a movie tonight (Red) with the actress Mary Louise Parker in it and she reminded me of you but of course you're younger and prettier :) thanks for the tips!
